We have already posted about the new announcements made by Apple at its education event in New York City. Textbooks for iPad is a revolutionary concept and will no doubt transform how ebooks are created in today’s world. So how can one create textbooks for iPad? Apple has released a special Mac app for this purpose and its called iBooks Author.
Apple has attempted to reinvent the education system as we know it. iBooks 2 brings textbooks on iPad from three major publishers in the USA which account for over 90% of all textbook sales. Textbooks are primarily geared towards high-school students and are priced at $14.99 or less. One can even create their own textbooks for iPad, using the iBooks Author app for Mac.
Now anyone can create stunning iBooks textbooks, cookbooks, history books, picture books, and more for iPad using iBooks Author on Mac. Apple has only released this app for Mac and has revealed no plans of bringing it to Windows. You can add your own text and images with drag-and-drop ease to pre-existing templates. Interactive photo galleries, movies, Keynote presentations, 3D objects, and more can also be added in your book using the multi-touch widget. iBooks Author also allows you to preview your book on iPad any time you want.
Becoming a published author on the iBookstore is very simple. When your work is finished on iBooks Author for Mac, simply submit your book to the iBookstore by completing a few steps. Soon you will be a published author on the iBookstore. It is solely the book creator’s discretion if they want to charge for their work or offer it for free. However those who charge for their books will enter a contract with Apple through which a percentage of the revenue generated will be kept by Apple. It is totally similar to the 30% cut Apple keeps after the sale of a paid iOS app.
