Wappalyzer is a FireFox/Chrome plugin that identifies software used by websites.

As of now, Wappalyzer can tell you about a website’s CMS, message board, analytics tools, JS frameworks, and other software used to run the website.

Wappalyzer is useful for “cloning” websites, or for getting the gist of the technology behind a website you’d like to understand.

The statistics gathered by this plugin are available publicly, and are available at the Wappalyzer’s web.

ShareMeNot is a FireFox add-on that prevents sharing buttons embedded by websites from tracking who you are until you actually interact with the buttons.

With all the privacy concerns about third-party tracking — especially the one employed by Facebook — ShareMeNot offers a painless solution to websites tracking you when you don’t want it.

The main concern is that, even though many sites gather information anonymously, third-party tracking devices can be used to create a profile of your browsing habits, and even you as a person, through relentless information gathering.

There’s also Chrome version that’s still very much a WIP, but offers hope that something like ShareMeNot will be available for Chrome, too.
