A New, Easy, and Exciting CMS/Framework – ProcessWire

ProcessWire is an abundantly functional, easy to use open-source CMS written in PHP.

Modules page of processwire A New, Easy, and Exciting CMS/Framework ProcessWireBasically, the CMS takes a very structured approach, and is quite similar to Drupal in many aspects.

What you’ll like about ProcessWire:

  • Intuitive, easy use, whilst preserving the ability to do more.
  • Drupal-style pages (nodes) give you total freedom on how each page acts (great for designers and for added functionality).
  • Easy, jQuery-style API.
  • Custom fields add increased versatility to the pages.
  • Although a ‘jack of all trades’ is usually the ‘master of none’, the modular system of ProcessWire makes the system very versatile, at least matching Drupal in this aspect.

What you won’t like:

  • Besides the obvious gains for designers and newer users, ProcessWire doesn’t have that much to offer.
  • Not for blogs — an easy to use CMS, but WordPress is still easier, not to mention design templates.

jQuery Terminal Emulator – Command Line with jQuery

jQuery Terminal Emulator is a plugin for creating command line interpreters with jQuery.

The plugin follows the standard command line design, and would work for testing purposes, and for outlining yet-to-be implemented features.

With the terminal, you can easily implement JSON-RPC services–in fact, it only takes a single line.

JSON-RPC auth is also supported.

Multiple terminals per page are allowed. You can even add keyboard shortcuts. ;)

A thorough carousel slider – moodular

Moodular is a jQuery carousel/slider, albeit a bit different from other jQuery plugins.

moodular A thorough carousel slider moodularFirst of all, moodular is really thorough and well-made.

The plugin supports external function calls, easing, changing movement speed/direction, and even has a ‘carousel’  option, hence the carousel in the title.

Images can be rounded, and you can switch between zooming and fading images.

Besides, you can add a shiny reflection to each image. Neat.

A cool coverflow plugin – jCoverflip

jCoverflip is a jQuery-powered “cover gallery” plugin.

jCoverflip is straightforward: it’s easy to use, flexible, and customizable.

You can theme the default theme (which is beautiful in itself) for even better looks, and adjust the speed at which items flow plus other variables. jCoverflip even has events!

You can use jCoverflip for a lot of things: use it for e-commerce stores; band websites; and for Drupal-powered blogs, as jCoverflip can be tied to show content entries instead of images, too.

A “file download assistant” for jQuery – jDownload

jDownload is a plugin with a sole purpose–to provide more info about the file that needs to be downloaded.

Although jDownload basically slows the download process, in some cases it’s desirable to use jDownload.

For example, jDownload can work for sites which host larger files, as the user may want to cancel the download if the file is too big.

Plus, you can include advertisements that are shown upon download.

You can do a lot more with jDownload – for example, you can call functions on various events; change the proportions of the dialogue; and of course modify the plugin to, for example, allow file sharing.

A small, no-frills CMS – Wolf CMS

Wolf CMS is a lightweight CMS, which started as a fork of Frog CMS.

blabla A small, no frills CMS Wolf CMS

Wolf CMS seems to focus on a small size and flexible ends. Unlike other smaller content management systems, Wolf CMS tries not to fall behind in themes.

What you’ll like about Wolf:

  • Not that many themes, but they’re all pretty.
  • Flexible templates
  • Neatly coded
  • Nice user interface
  • Page “behaviors” allow for highly customized pages
  • etc.

What you won’t like:

  • The “flexibility” has its drawbacks — Wolf CMS doesn’t really have an all-round purpose
