PhotoShow’s admin interface is intuitive and allows administrators to sort, manage and delete images with just the mouse.

The web gallery doesn’t require a database to run, as the files are sorted exclusively through the file system.

A proxy system allows managing user permissions on a ‘mechanical’ level, meaning the photos can really stay private, that is, if they aren’t stored in a public directory.

Overall, PhotoShow is a powerful web gallery which could definitely be a top choice for the prolific artist’s portfolio.

jPages is a jQuery plugin for client side pagination.

The plugin is unobtrusive as it doesn’t add any extra styles and leaves the design nuts and bolts entirely to you.

The plugin has a great number of options and its API allows either jumping to a specific page, or destroying the plugin. The latter is very useful as you can, after destroying a given instance, reload jPages with different parameters.

jPages is a full-fledged pagination plugin that’s useful not only for creating galleries and media libraries, but also websites–just like in this example.

Revolver.js is a slider that’s customizable as you please.

Revolver.js provides an easy-to-use API for creating a gallery of your own, and is used for creating your own, adapted sliders.

There are countless — literally, dozens upon dozens of slider galleries –, but Revolver has a distinct build that allows for customization.

The “slider-boilerplate” comes with an API that covers what you’d expect from a slider plugin, but leaves sorting the building blocks to you. Transition effects and callbacks are included, too.

Revolver is available as a plugin for MooTools and jQuery, is well documented and leaves but a small footprint on your project (4.5kb minified).

Mary Lou at tympanus.net has published another awesome tutorial. This time it’s about achieving a thumbnail proximity effect with jQuery and CSS.

To achieve such effect, Mary Lou suggests using the jQuery proximity plugin, and, as we can see in the demo, it works well, making the artsy images even more beautiful.

This tutorial is useful for refreshing your knowledge about making galleries, and for using the source to create your own-customized thumbnail gallery (e.g., for a portfolio).

CoolCarousels is a neat website showcasing 21 (as of now) carousel galleries.

Of course what makes this website so useful is that it’s easier for you to choose from the myriad carousel galleries available.

Each carousel gallery has a different look and functionality (and the source code is included in each), plus a helpful description and download links.

Flow Slider is a Flash-like jQuery content slider that’s super friendly to use.

Flow Slider encourages mouseover events; in the main demo the emphasis is set to “cursor control”, i.e., users scroll between slider items with the help of a cursor.

Flow Slider supports newer browsers and older ones. The plugin also allows you to tweak settings quite a lot (user interaction, transition effects, and designing).
