Add pretty captions to your (prettier) images – Captify

Captify is a jQuery extension for adding sexy captions to your images.

The
plugin is very small (2.3 kb), and, although it mainly does one thing, it does it right.

Captify has some options available.

You can set the speed of mouseover and mouseout animations; change the opacity of the overlay; specify the classname to avoid CSS problems; and even change the location of the overlay.

P.S. We know that Webification is laced with jQuery this week–but so is the web! ;)

Have your own web lottery – jQuery.scratchie

jQuery.Scratchie is a plugin for creating instant-lottery like scratchcards.

Although the example doesn’t look that fresh, I’m pretty sure the plugin has its use.

You can define the overlay’s color, or use an image for that matter; you can also make the plugin respond to mouseovers instead of “scratching action” for revealing the background image.

This plugin could be useful for interactive advertisements, and maybe for a super cool way of avoiding spoilers in a forum or at blog comments.

Build JavaScript animations with ease – Mashi Toolkit

Mashi is a pretty interesting animation toolkit that works with timelines the way that MovieMaker or Vegas works.

MASHIAPPS Build JavaScript animations with ease Mashi Toolkit

You know, the first thing that stands out is the fabulous design of the homepage.

But, apart from that, Mashi provides a few fun features:

  • Timeline-based animations
  • Easily expandable with plugins
  • <canvas> support (hooray, HTML5!)
  • Open coding; you don’t have to switch frameworks to work with Mashi
  • An active community and a GREAT documentation

This plugin should be interesting for designers who want new solutions that JS simply cannot offer at the time.

Raphaël 1.5 released – new functions & bugfixes

Over a month ago, we covered Raphaël, a JS library for creating graphics.

Today, Raphaël 1.5 was released, and with it still being in active development, it seems that the library will only get better with time.

Two big new features were added: custom attributes and keyframes. They were introduced to make Raphaël even more CSS-like.

The new release also features numerous bug-fixes. The only backwards-compatibility issue can be fixed with a single line of code.

You can view also read a more in-depth post about the update at the developer’s web.

A JavaScript library for image manipulation – Pixastic

Pixastic is a JavaScript image processing library. Although it makes more sense to edit images in e.g. Photoshop, this java script allows automating the image manipulation process.

Notable features of Pixastic include: the ability to grayscale, invert, flip, emboss, blur, and adjust the brightness and the contrast of the image.

There is one downside, though: Pixastic uses HTML5’s canvas element. Which means that the plugin doesn’t work on IE. A few features might work on it, though.

A demo is available in the plugin’s website.

A nice, customizable plugin – jQuery Image Scroller

jQuery Image Scroller is an image scroller that creates scrollable thumbnails for larger images (see the demo).

You still have to style the elements with CSS, but it’s not that hard, really.

Image Scroller also has options: you can choose separate images for the large image and the thumbnail.

You can also specify the text that appears on the thumbnail.
