Ditto – The Recommendations Application

“Looking to hang out? Find out what your friends are up to, have a conversation or get a group together. Ditto makes it easy to get recommendations about restaurants, movies and things to do. Download the app, and start Dittoing!”

See what your friends are doing, when they’re looking for a friend to join them for coffee, what movie they’re going to see, and what their evening plans are.

The app is notable because it was created by Jyri Engeström, who previously founded Jaiku, a Twitter competitor that Google bought in 2007. Engeström was then Google’s “head of social,” but left dissatisfied in 2009. Pieces of the never-released product he’d been developing at Google showed up in Google Buzz, Profiles and Latitude, according to Engeström.

ZEN Stone-like HTML5 and CSS3 Audio Player

As an avid fan of Creative’s ZEN MP3 players, I was pretty impressed upon seeing the HTML5 ZEN player, realeased by simurai.com some 17 hours ago.

ZENSTONE ZEN Stone like HTML5 and CSS3 Audio PlayerThe player itself looks like this. Really. There is no playlist, just a single song, which you can skip through by sliding the circle.

It uses jPlayer, and some bits of circleplayer to achieve the desired effect.

Although there are quite a few options, the concept is very stylish, and abides to the standards of Creative’s players.

You’ll have, however, to wait for a proper download if you mind leeching the files off the server.

Use the audio tag everywhere – audio.js

audio.js is a straightforward plugin for enabling the <audio> tag on older browsers and using it successfully on newer ones.

the xx Use the audio tag everywhere audio.jsThe good news is: audio.js supports CSS styling.

The bad news is – it supports only the .mp3 format, so Opera and FireFox get a fallback to Flash. And you can’t really style Flash.

Nice work on the documentation, though, as the developer explains how to compile Flash files even if you don’t have it.

    A revolutionary service – SpeakerText

SpeakerText is a pretty awesome service, which allows you to easily transcript videos, making quotes from the video appear in Google’s results.

    QuoteLink A revolutionary service SpeakerText

It costs $19.99 a month and comes with a 21 day free trial. There, we said it – SpeakerText isn’t free.

However, the price tag doesn’t denounce SpeakerText in any way — we don’t like the price, but the idea is cool, to say the least.

This service is particularly useful for anyone involved with video publishing.

It allows for seamless WordPress integration, support for other systems is still on its way.

Another media library for jQuery – jMediaelement

jMediaelement is a neat jQuery extension for managing media files on your site. It works with HTML5′s tags.

You can style the media elements on your site with simple CSS.

Like other similar plugins, jMediaelement supports fallback to Flash for older browsers.

It currently supports ogg, mp4/mov, WebM, flv, youtube videos, and some other formats.
