Yes, the stats are indeed real-time, not once-in-a-five-minutes realtime.  Its structure allows updating up to 20 times per second.

However, there is one big “but” – Hummingbird works only on newer versions of Chrome and Safari, so will still remain a concept plugin for at least a little while.
