Facebook are changing the way they do things, with a new revamped Facebook profile. The new Facebook Timeline will soon be replacing your current Facebook profile, allowing you to easily integrate old information and highlight important updates from your Facebook life.
Facebook Timeline was officially unveiled at the 2011 F8 developer conference, where it was announced by head honcho Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook are calling it the “the evolution of your profile”, but many of the details are about the rediscovery of content that is already there.
From the official Facbook blog: “Since the beginning of Facebook, your profile has been the place where you tell your story. People use it to share everything from the small stuff, like their thoughts on an article, to the most important events of their lives, like the photos of their wedding or the birth of their child.”
In order to integrate old information while also staying current, the new Facebook Timeline is wider than the old profile. It is also a lot more visual, with a photo cover on the top right hand corner and a collection of posts, photos, and life events as they happened in time. “Timeline is a completely new aesthetic for Facebook,” said Zuckerberg at the conference.
One other new feature added is called Reports, which uses your apps to create a summary of what you have been doing away from Facebook. This can be broken down by dates much like Timeline, and obviously comes from a similar philosophy.
Facebook Timeline is available already to developers, with the beta version all ready to go. Regular users can also sign up for it immediately, and will be notified when it rolls out during the next few weeks.
